I'm horrified by these accounts, but mostly because they're so... I don't know... human, real. They make rape more frightening because they illustrate the utterly messy nature of perception. We have a startling capacity for cluelessness, delusion and dissociation. Seeing rapists in this way makes them more sympathetic, and that's disturbing, but it also makes them more familiar, and that's cautionary. I think if I had a teenage daughter, I'd want her to read this, to understand something about rape and people in general: average people are capable of extraordinary cruelty, and it doesn't take much to get there.

Douglas Faneuil [Gawker Tech]

In a Gawker post earlier today http://gawker.com/5923046, one of our writers wrote: "The right to pr

In a Gawker post earlier today http://gawker.com/5923046, one of our writers wrote: "The right to privacy, no matter how noble a concept in origin, automatically implies some level of guilt, embarrassment, and shame." What's your counterargument?

Douglas Faneuil [Gawker Tech]

Hey- can you give me details on environment/browser?

Hey- can you give me details on environment/browser?
